Chapter One: The Big Apple (Part 2)

Willa

She’s standing there, stopped dead in her doorway, and her mouth is probably open, but all she can think of is how pretty Avery is. She moves like Taylor and Kennedy, the actually good cheerleaders from back home did, confident in their control of their bodies. She’s built like them too, lean muscle on a slender frame, though she looks like she’d be stronger than most of them.

God she’s such a fuck up. She’s still got a girlfriend, technically! Like sure, Natalia ended up staying behind in California, but they promised to try and do it long distance, and yet here is she on her first day in New York, drooling over her new roommate.

God she hopes she isn’t actually drooling.

“Stop ogling our new roommate Willa!”

And suddenly her brain is working again, and she takes a moment to take in the person next to Avery, and her brain shuts down for a completely different reason.

Wasn’t Avery supposed to be bringing a boy?

…

Wait no, that is the boy! It took her a second to notice, but he’s got some stubble on his lip. He’s kinda hairy in general actually, now that she’s looking closer, but there’s something subtly androgynous about him, almost like he only made it halfway through puberty. If he covered up his body hair she would probably mistake him for a girl from a distance.

“Don’t worry, I don’t mind it when hot girls check me out.”

And that draws her attention right back to Avery, and yup. She’s still just as hot, though they really need to take her shopping at some point. She’s wearing old shorts and a kinda ratty t-shirt, and what might actually be the worst shoes Willa has ever seen. She can’t quite tell from this distance, what with the way Avery seems to habitually keep herself moving, but she’s pretty sure those sneakers are so worn out that they’ve got actual holes in them.
